An Invitation To Virtual Tea and Shopping

My cup is full and running over with delight to pen this blog post.  You see, I am quite the tea connoisseur.  A favorite past time is visiting tea shops, tea rooms, and cafes.  So, today I am bubbling over with excitement to share three tea etiquette tips with a spoon full or two of the Word stirred in.  Will you join me for, Tea?

Tea Etiquette Rule # 1: “Sip don’t slurp!”

The first sip to the last sip should be quiet.  No slurping!  Keeping your sips brief will eliminate the fear of committing tea faux pas.  A favorite past time when having tea is to meditate on the Word.  The Bible says, “Then said Jesus unto Peter, put up thy sword   into the sheath: the cup which my Father hath given me, shall I not drink it?” ^{John 18:11}  Jesus poses a potent question to Peter.  Peter has just cut off the ear of a Roman soldier.  Jesus wants Peter to calm down and acknowledge the work of God, which must be done.  Jesus sobers Peter with the question, “the cup which my Father hath given me, shall I not drink it?”  As I quietly, yes quietly, enjoy sipping my tea I mediate on the cup Jesus had to take for me.   

Tea Etiquette Rule # 2: “How To Drink Tea.”

A refined woman will sit up straight and place the fine-linen napkin on her lap when at tea. The cup should be utilized by the handle.  The cup should be bought to your mouth without leaning the body forward to meet the teacup.  Please do not cradle the cup in your hands.  The $64,000.00 question … “Should the pinky finger be raised in the air or lowered?” Avoid raising your little finger, Ladies.  Lastly, the cup is placed back down on the saucer in between sips.  Tea brewing time is time for me to allow the Word to brew in my heart.  The Bible says,  “… Jesus stood up and called out in a loud voice, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink.”  ^{John 7:37}  What an invitation!  Jesus is a thirst quencher.  Regardless of the thirst.  What are you thirsty for today?  Ask Him to satisfy that thirst while we are at tea today.

Tea Etiquette Rule # 3: “Don’t blow on the tea.”

As God’s woman, with the manners of a southern belle, allow a cup of tea to cool on the table if it is too hot. Never, never, never, blow on the tea.  As you patiently wait for the temperature of the tea to lower mediate on God’s Word. The Bible says, “And when they came to Marah, they could not drink of the waters of Marah, for they were bitter: therefore, the name of it was called Marah.” ^{Exodus 15:23}  As the tea steeps in the boiling water; remember the bitter things in life that God made sweet like He did for Israel. In the wilderness of Shur the Israelites had no water. At Marah they had water, but it was bitter; so that they could not drink it. God may, for a time, order His people to encamp by the bitter waters of Marah, but that shall not always be their lot.

It is been a joy having tea and devotions with you today, Sister-friend.  Why do I enjoy tea with sister-friends so much?  Great question!  It is not just the tea in the vintage teacup that I look forward.  When at tea with the table dressed in a pristine white linen tablecloth topped with petite sweet and savories; I also get to enjoy, “The Tea or Ty of Friendship”.  They are: compatibili-TY, feminini-TY, communi-TY, sobrie-TY, and liber-TY.  Thanks for accepting my invitation to tea with Jesus and me!
